well child visits

child having their ears examined on the exam table

What is a well child visit?

A well child visit is an opportunity for you and your child to explore and understand their growth. A well child visit is essential to make sure you and your child are healthy and happy.

What do you check?

We assess development to ensure your child is hitting social, physical and emotional milestones. We will check your child's weight, height, hearing, vision, and teeth.

My child is scared or nervous of the visit, what can I do?

We understand that kids are not cookie cutter and no two are the same. Here are some helpful tips to prepare your child for the visit and to help calm their fear or emotions:

  • Show/point on a toy or stuffed animal, where the provider will examine. For example if we used a bear, point to the bears ears and explain that you need to look at them so we can make sure it can hear. Look at the mouth and explain we want to see its teeth so we can make sure its teeth look good so it can eat.
  • Tell your child that you will be with them the whole time. Parents this means you have to be there and make good on this promise :)
  • Let your child play with toy medical instruments such as a thermometer, stethoscope, tape measure or scale. Let them examine a stuffed animal or yourself. This will help them understand the basics of what we are trying to accomplish.
  • As we currently do no vaccinate, there is no need to worry about a needle, unless you would like blood drawn for any testing. This creates a very positive experience for your child. If you are looking for vaccinations we can recommend where to get them at as well.

When should my child have an exam?

Your child should be seen at the following intervals: 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months (1 year), 18 months, 24 months (2 years) , then once every year till they turn 18. As always if you notice something out of the normal or of concern, we are more than happy to see you at an earlier time.

What are the costs?

A well child visit on average costs $100-$130.
