As one can imagine weight loss is not a new concept and has been around for some years. Below are some interesting and not so interesting (potentially harmful) diets that have been around that society has tried for weight loss:
1. Imagine yourself in the Roman empire, the beautiful colosseum, the pantheon and lots and lots of food. So much food in fact that Romans would stuff themselves and purge out all this food later. Enter the "binging and purging" diet. This is still practiced today and is often referred to as Bulimia. This can be a very difficult cycle to break for those who struggle with this.
2. Next we head to the medieval ages with William the Conqueror and Henry the VIII. William tried alot of bed rest and a liquid diet of just alcohol. Not only are you really malnourished on this diet, but also hungover. No thank you.
3. Fast forward 700ish years and we are in the 1800's. There was alot of europeans who were trying the vinegar and water diet. During this time there was even a diet that involved eating graham crackers, called the Graham Diet. This diet was named after its founder the Presbyterian minister Rev. Sylvester Graham.
4. The grape fruit diet started in the 1930's and is still practiced today. This diet also involved eating lots of protein, limiting carbs and sugars as well as drinking lots of coffee.
5. The 1950's brought us the tape worm diet. This was made available via a small pill that you would take that had the parasite in it. For the record, count me out on this one, I am going back to the grapefruit.
6. The last 50 years (in no particular order) we have seen the following diets: weight watchers, Atkins diet, , slim fast diet, Jenny Craig, Keto, Cookie diet, cabbage soup diet, subway diet, etc., etc.

Myth #1 - Weight loss is all about the weight, it is a linear process.
Weight loss does involve the scale, but everyone is built and wired differently as is not a linear process. A 175lbs person will lose weight differently (faster or slower) than someone who is 350lbs. These same people will each fluctuate differently on how they lose weight as well, either gaining or decreasing at different rates throughout their weight loss journey.
Myth #2 - You get fat from Insulin.
If this had any truth to it, you would be overweight very early in life.
